The reclamation of the former BG North West headquarters was part of an overall area regeneration scheme involving 4 contracts: industrial, residential, infrastructure and public open space developments. The project involved the demolition of a six-storey office block and associated building for reprocessing and re-use of aggregates within the works.
The residential and public open space contracts involved excavating former clay pits, which had been backfilled over a period of 150 years with domestic refuse, to a depth of 9 metres. Excavated materials were screened for recycling, and backfilled with engineered fill.
The infrastructure contract supplied adoptable roads and drainage to serve the residential and commercial areas of the site. During the scheme, we also carried out enabling works to facilitate three major gas main diversions through the site within an extremely tight timescale.
Water treatment plant that employed oil and water separators and sand and carbon filters was also installed with samples validated regularly.
