The eagerly anticipated scheme will reduce the amount of traffic, especially heavy goods vehicles, using the A628 though Cudworth, and improve access to local employment sites.
The scope of works comprises:
VHE installed a 110 tonne rail bridge as part of the scheme. The 22m long bridge was lifted into position by a 800 tonne Demag AC700 crane during a 28 hour rail possession. VHE and specialist rail subcontractors CML required only 30 minutes to install the single span bridge deck.
The route runs through the embankment underneath the existing single track rail line connecting manufacturer Ardargh Glass with the Wakefield to Grimethorpe rail line.
