Customer:Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Value: £4.0 million
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council awarded VHE the contract to reclaim the former BICC Pyrotenax Cable Works in Prescott, Knowsley.
The works included the demolition of 17 existing structures and the processing of arisings and concrete slabs and foundations to produce highway specification fills and sub-base for use within the works. Following the grouting and capping of old mine workings, VHE undertook the removal of approximately 3,000m³ of contaminated material, a result of the site’s history of copper cabling manufacture.
The project also involved the construction of approximately 1km of 7.3m wide carriageway linking Carr Lane to Manchester Road together with all temporary traffic management and Section 278 works.
The project produced platforms to enable the site’s redevelopment as a new light industrial business park. Extensive landscaping works were also undertaken to enhance the environment’s appearance and enable parts of the site to be used as public open space.
