Experienced in working with existing householders, carrying out remediation work under Part 2A of the Environmental Act.
In recent years VHE has been particularly successful in helping local authorities to comply with Part 2A of the Environment Act. This sets out the regulatory framework for local Authorities to deal with the estimated 200,000 hectares of land contaminated during previous use. Local Authorities are required to assess whether land is contaminated, who is responsible and the level of remediation required.
In July 2008, DEFRA published ‘Guidance on the Legal Definition of Contaminated Land’ to assist with the interpretation that ‘land is contaminated if it poses a significant possibility of significant harm (SPOSH)’. Having delivered a nationwide portfolio of impressive work in recent years, VHE are proud to emerge as one of the UK’s leading Part 2A contractors.
This work can provide particular environmental challenges as it frequently involves occupied residential properties. The sensitive approach to all stakeholders on these projects is fundamental to their success and this has been recognised by the Considerate Constructors scheme, with VHE receiving two national awards for our sites at Pontesbury and Royal Inch Crescent.
VHE has developed considerable experience in working with existing householders in carrying out work under Part 2A of the Environmental Act and are also a framework contractor on the Environment Agency National Remediation Contractor Framework.
