Value: £6.6 million
The remediation of a former gas works site for redevelopment for commercial, industrial, housing and leisure uses.
The site had complex logistical issues and significant constraints: it was bounded by the Grand Union Canal, Ladbroke Grove Rail Facility, live Transco apparatus, a food retail store and a canal basin. Access to the site required careful liaison with adjoining stakeholders to ensure continuity of working with minimal disruption to the public.
The works included:
As part of the project the access to the Grand Union Canal had to be sealed to allow the removal of the existing canal basin and its reconstruction in a new location within the development. A double-skin sheet piled wall was installed at the entrance using the Gikon method to minimise noise disruption and potential damage by vibration to the surrounding area and facilities.
Once the entrance had been sealed the new pile walls to the basin were installed. A pre-boring operation had to be carried out to ensure any obstructions were removed prior to installation. The value of the piling works was approximately £200,000.
VHE worked closely with adjoining stakeholders to ensure continuity of working with minimal disruption to the public, and will always try to minimise any disruption our remediation services cause.
