This was our second project for Strata Homes on the redevelopment of the former Onward Transport Factory at Ackworth, near Pontefract.
VHE carried out the remediation of the site, including the removal and processing for reuse of all the tarmacadam surfaces. Selective removal of hotspots identified by the site investigation was also undertaken. The excavated material was treated using biophysical methods on site and reused below the capping layer.
We excavated and processed the top 2m of quarried ground across the site to remove all obstructions to future building and drainage works. This material was all crushed and recycled on site in accordance with the specification for reuse in the construction works.
Construction of the build landform including the piling mat areas was also delivered under this contract. In addition, we installed the primary drainage and first lateral drains within the roadway corridor as well as the road construction to basecourse level. We also installed the road crossing service ducts.
Part of the drainage works included the provision of connections for both the surface and foul drainage to the existing systems in Wakefield Road.
We also constructed a large surface water attenuation storage system using 4.4m by 2.4m precast concrete units. Finally, we constructed the Section 278 works to permit access to the site from Wakefield Road.
