Value: £1.9 million

Design and construction of housing development platforms from a redundant stone quarry using existing site won quarry waste materials to provide a platform to sustain a housing development of approximately 170 dwellings.

The scope of work involved:

  • Selective excavation and rock filling prior to dynamic compaction
  • Dynamic compaction of low-level fill
  • Rock filling by traditional compaction methodology to within 2 metres of the finished surface
  • Crushing and screening 180,000 cubic metres to produce a structural capping layer placed over the entire area
  • The reclamation of 450,000 cubic metres of material utilising in-house plant
  • Importation of 30,000m³ of sand fill

An existing culvert (Trap Sike) required diverting away from the housing development, together with an existing foul sewer. The redundant culvert was then in-filled with grout. This was carried out with close liaison with the Environment Agency, the City of Bradford Metropolitan Council and Yorkshire Water.
