Parkwood Landfill Capping, Sheffield

VHE were awarded the contract for the permanent capping of the Landfill Cell at Parkwood Landfill in Sheffield.

The operational landfill site at Parkwood Road is just up the road from our multi-phase Neepsend Gasworks scheme.

VHE’s cappping works at Parkwood involved included:

Regrading of waste and placement of 300mm regulating layer
Installation of a Geosynthetic Clay Liner
Installation of a LLDPE geomembrane
Installation of a Geocomposite
Placement of 1500mm of restoration soils over the Geocomposite
Cultivation of restoration soils and compost material
Grass seeding of capped area and 12 months aftercare

In addition to this, we also undertook:

Gas collection system works including raising 8 wells and installing 90mm gas pipe
Relocation of screen bund and associated litter fence
Construction of drainage works
Landscape remediation of previously restored areas and 12 months aftercare
Imported approved material to construct a new cell Wall, including carrying out lining and associated pipework for leachate and gas.

We completed the project in two phases, installing the necessary drainage initially then returning to complete the capping works once the cell had been completely filled.
