VHE, in conjunction with our sister company Amco Rail, mobilised at short notice following recent storms to undertake emergency beach repair works.
The purpose was to make good damage to the existing rock armour protection following the recently repaired track to the exposed Tywyn to Barmouth rail line prior to the then expected spring tides which could have increased the vunerability of the line.
Rock armour weight range (4000-7000 kg) was imported to a suitable beach access point by road then hauled between tides by articulated dumper to be placed within the existing wall by 45 tonne excavators and grab.
2500 tonnes of rock armour was replaced with further relocation and rebuilding of the remaining sections adjacent to the rail-line. In order to undertake the works it was necessary for us to obtain environmental permits from the authorities including an Assent to work adjacent to SSSI, Flood Defence Consent and Marine licences together with the necessary trackside permits.
Trackside operations were supervised by Amco Rail on behalf of the client, Network Rail.
