VHE was awarded the contract for the reclamation of the former riverside development at Trent Basin in Nottingham for the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The works involved the dredging of the basin inlet, concrete repairs to both the basin walls and those out on the River Trent and the remediation of the land adjacent to the basin.
The remediation involved the excavation and screening of made ground, removal and processing of relic foundations and treatment and disposal of contaminated material in preparation for residential development. Bioremediation of Hydrocarbon impacted materials was carried out together with hot spot removal. Careful excavation was required in the vicinity of the existing basin wall to ensure that the structure and ties were not effected by the works.
VHE also employed specialist subcontractors to carry out the dredging of the silts from the water filled basin and to carry out concrete repairs to the walls. Both of these operations were undertaken from barges and pontoons involving specialist access equipment.
The works were carried out over two visits to accommodate a second phase of demolition.
