Groundworks and infrastructure for a future residential development of 89 dwellings in Castleford.
Our contract was to remove excess material from the site and to create the landform necessary for the construction of the dwellings. The site investigation for the project had identified 5 former mine shafts within the site. We excavated the overburden to expose these and then capped them using concrete. This work was carried under close supervision by the local authority engineers.
We constructed the surface and foul drainage, including the first laterals and the first stage construction of a foul pumping station. In addition, we installed a rising main to the outfall location. A surface water attenuation lagoon and headwalls were also constructed as part of the first stage drainage.
We constructed the on-site roads up to basecourse level and also installed service duct crossings of them throughout the development.
Along two main boundary sections of the site, we constructed a gabion basket wall, with sleeved wooden privacy fence on top. This was to provide a screen for the future occupants from adjacent industrial premises. We also constructed piling platforms where required throughout the development.
