Pill Box relocated as part of the Barrow Waterfront Project

Earlier this year Cumbria County Council appointed VHE to deliver a £1.7 million package of works to remediate dockland areas and kick-start the Barrow Waterfront Business Park development.

The Environmental Audit Committee have released a report stating that the government’s ambition to manage the UK’s soil sustainability by 2030 will not be possible without further action.

Calls for restoring contaminated land to be a priority for the UK government

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) recently conducted a report and found funding for local councils to clean up contaminated land was insufficient. However, the Government has rejected the call by auditors for contaminated land grants to be restored.

Using Brownfield Land for Sustainable Development

The report ‘Brownfield First: making better use of our land’, produced by the Environmental Industries Commission (EIC), states that due to the UK’s rich industrial heritage, rising population and constrained space, the re-use of previously developed (brownfield) land is an essential part of creating sustainable new projects and developments in the UK.
