VHE have had some fantastic success working with local communities across the UK in the past few years. Most recently, we have been involved with a film project based on the regeneration of Sighthill, Glasgow.

Earlier this year the Year 5/6 children of St. Stephen’s Primary School, in collaboration with the Ibrox Study Centre, decided to make a film focusing on the impact that the Sighthill regeneration is having on the lives of local people through the eyes of the children. Pupils at the school have also recently featured on site signage erected around the Sighthill regeneration area.

The children involved in the film project were eager to get in contact with companies involved in the regeneration project. We were only too happy to contribute the time and expertise of our Contract Manager, to star in the video on behalf of VHE. A Site Agent will be attending the film premiere at the school on Thursday 15th December on behalf of VHE.

Always committed to helping out great causes, Gordon Wilson, Construction Director, who was keen for VHE to become involved in this project, commented:

“We are proud to be playing our part in transforming the Sighthill area. As the regeneration of Sighthill is continuing at pace VHE is keen to keep young people at the local schools and members of the local community as engaged with progress as much as is possible.”

The regeneration of Sighthill is being delivered by Transforming Communities: Glasgow; a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Housing Association and the Scottish Government. The land remediation work in Sighthill Park is part of a five year programme of works that will deliver almost 800 new high-quality homes for sale and rent, a new community school campus, a new footbridge across the M8 and the creation of a ‘street in the sky’ to connect Sighthill with the city centre. In addition, a new road bridge across the railway to link Sighthill with Port Dundas will also be added, along with improved parkland, allotments and public spaces.

As a leading UK remediation contractor and Principal Contractor on the 50Ha Sighthill regeneration project, VHE are undertaking the contaminated land treatment and brownfield remediation work as a result of the activity that occurred in Sighthill’s industrial past when large amounts of galligu, created as a by-product of the soda works which occupied the site, were dumped across the local area.

If you too are looking to reap the benefits of VHE’s award-winning land remediation, earthworks and infrastructure services, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of our team today by calling 01226 320150.
