The project involved the remediation of the 3.44 hectare former Bristol Diesel Depot adjacent to Temple Meads Station in central Bristol.
The 35 week programme involved:
The soil washing process involved a range of processes including separation by particle size, screening and crushing, attrition, de-sanding, de-silting, fines flocculation and sludge de-watering by centrifuge. Approximately 35,000m³ of contaminated materials were treated to reduce concentrations of a variety of contaminants to specified target levels using plant designed and constructed in-house by VHE. VHE re-used approximately 80% of the treated material on-site. A daily average output of 700 tonnes was achieved.
