VHE are proud to announce that the Sighthill Transformational Regeneration Area Contract 1 won a Regeneration Award at the Saltire Civil Engineering Awards!
Run by the Institution of Civil Engineers, in partnership with CECA Scotland, the annual awards recognise excellence and innovation in civil engineering and celebrate its contribution to quality of life in Scotland. This year the awards were also a celebration of ICE’s bicentenary.
The Sighthill Transformation Regeneration Area is an ambitious project with the objective of transforming the physical environment of the Sighthill area. The site, prior to its most recent use, encompassed numerous industrial facilities including chemical works, above and below ground rail infrastructure, brickworks and engineering works.
Contract 1 required investigation and characterisation of all waste material up to depths of 20m and extensive groundwater modelling prior to establishing the detailed containment and earthworks strategy which mitigated contamination risk to the environment while creating the platform for development.
The Masterplan incorporated social and economic sustainability to create a safe, accessible inclusive urban neighbourhood with a new community campus school, mixed residential development, public realm suitable for community events and new parkland all within walking and cycling distance from Glasgow city centre.
Congratulations to all VHE staff involved in the project and to our award submission partners - Glasgow City Council, WYG, SWECO and Gardiner and Theobald.
