VHE are pleased to sponsor the Oakwood High School Year 7 students’ entry in to the Race for the Line competition.
Race for the Line, now in its 4th season, is the largest team based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) competition in the world and is designed to bring STEM learning to life.
In the competition teams design and make the fastest rocket powered car they can and compete across multiple stages. These include school staff sessions which cover competition rules and pyrotechnic safety (November – December 2018), at-school qualifiers (January –April 2019), regional finals (April – May 2019) and the national final (June 2019).
Throughout the competition the winning teams will be determined by the cars that have the most efficient aerodynamics, have lower mass and that have safe, well designed wheels that reduce friction and can survive the forces of a high speed run. Prizes for the winning teams include £1,000, £500 and £250 of STEM products.
The £250 sponsorship from VHE will enable the students to participate in the competition and use the remaining funds to purchase additional resources. At VHE we can’t wait to see what the students create. Good luck to all involved!
Nikki Davison, Science Teacher at Oakwood High School in Rotherham, said “The Year 7 students will thoroughly enjoy the experience and we hope that the challenge will get them really excited about science, technology, engineering and maths.”
VHE regularly support the events of local schools with the aim of inspiring the next generation working in STEM. Recent events include a World of Work Day, Cycle to School scheme and a Sighthill filming project.
