At VHE we aim to continuously reduce our site fuel usage and emissions to the atmosphere, whether by using Eco excavators on our remediation contracts or alternative power sources.

Working with our site security provider, Security-Technique Ltd, a solar powered security unit has been developed.
The unit provides sensor activated CCTV monitoring 24 hours per day and is linked to a monitoring and control centre. The solar panels charge batteries that can provide power for up to five days removing the need for the site generator to run 24 hours, not only reducing fuel usage and emissions but also reducing out of hours noise and disturbance to the local community. There is a facility built into the unit to connect to the site generator or a small backup generator should it be needed. The unit is mounted on a trailer unit with a retractable mast that allows it to be towed to site by a large car, removing the need for HGV transport, further reducing emissions and vehicle movements.
The units are now in use on most of our short to medium duration contracts and are under continuous development following their initial successful use on one of our contracts over the summer. The use of these units will further enhance our sustainability credentials.
Our use of solar powered CCTV security units, along with our innovative use of a long reach excavator, have been featured on the Considerate Constructors Scheme Best Practice Hub. VHE have won a number of awards from Considerate Constructors, more details can be found in the awards and news section of our website.
