VHE’s success in delivering sites for development for Harworth Group continues with the commencement of works on the site of the former Harworth Colliery site in Nottinghamshire.
Harworth Colliery operated as a coal mine until 2006 and occupies a surface area of over 70 Hectares and in conjunction with the production and processing of coal the former Bawtry Coke works was also operational on the site between the late 1930’s and 1960’s.
VHE have secured two separate contracts to be run simultaneously. The first is the remediation of the former Coking works area involving the removal of existing bunds and concrete hard standings, the turnover and re-engineering of made ground, treatment of residual contamination within soils by bioremediation and the remediation of LNAPL hydrocarbon contamination in ground water.
The second is an area known as Parcel 1 and involves the clearance of relic foundations and surface concrete and re-engineering of a platform to accommodate residential development and infrastructure. Drainage protection and diversions are required along with the provision of suitable cap material.
