VHE are pleased to announce that a Performance Beyond Compliance Certificate was awarded to Site Agent Steve Murdoch following a recent visit to the Southern Area Remediation works, under the rules of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

The site complied with the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice by achieving high scores in the following categories; ‘Care about Appearance’, ‘Respect the Community’, ‘Protect the Environment’, ‘Protect everyone’s Safety’ and ‘Value their Workforce’. The project achieved an overall score of 38.

The old Gas Works and Gas Holders were situated on either side of the Mary Neuner Road in an industrial area on the outskirts of Wood Green in London N22: close to Alexandra Park. This enabling project on the site of the old Gas Works was a short duration job of 13 weeks involving demolition and substantial ground remediation work in preparation for an extensive residential development. The main site entrance and access gates into the working areas were through the existing security gates into the complex. This project was successfully completed for our long-standing client, National Grid.

The aim of the Considerate Contstructors scheme is to improve the image of construction. This is achieved by monitoring all registered sites, suggesting areas where improvements could be made and rewarding those who are performing at the highest levels. VHE are proud to have scored highly in all five sections.

The Site Monitor commented “This is one of the tidiest remediation sites that I have visited and the overall appearance of the works is excellent behind the existing steel palisade fencing securing the site: partially screened from the close neighbours with branded monarflex sheeting. The visible aspects of the works are generally excellent: presenting a very positive image of the Industry.

The Neighbours are treated with respect and inclusion and there is very good communication links with the local businesses and residents who live in the area. Noise, dust and vibration are suppressed and carefully monitored and there are ‘Odour Control’ systems in operation. The site pays particular attention to keeping the surrounding roads clean and there are regularly 20 to 30 muck-away’ lorries on site during the day.

Safety Practices are audited and the site demonstrates excellent compliance. The practical welfare facilities and care for the workforce are very good. These enabling works for this new residential development are ‘highly visible’ and the site is performing to very good standards of compliance overall.”
