Once the site is cleared, high level vegetation clearance will be undertaken on the listed structures, before groundworks commence to prepare the site for follow on development. This will predominantly consist of excavation and removal of made ground for screening, exposure and break out of hard structures, segregating and processing of all resultant materials and followed, finally, by backfilling to create the necessary platforms for development.
A strict environmental monitoring regime will be put in place for the duration of the works to ensure that both generated materials are suitable for reuse and that, due to the city centre location, all efforts are made to mitigate the impact of the works on surrounding businesses and residential property.
The Glasgow Meat Market was established in 1879 and covers six acres. It initially housed an inn, sheds and accommodation for livestock and was one of the last remaining markets in the country before closing in the 1980s, since then the well-known landmark has been derelict.
VHE commenced the Glasgow City Region City Deal funded works on site in August and are due to complete early November 2019. Modern homes and mixed use spaces will be developed on the site starting from 2020.
