At VHE we are able to bring additional value to our customers on a range of remediation projects by undertaking soil washing processes.
In recent years we have completed this type of work on projects ranging from the large scale Commonwealth Games Athlete’s Village in Glasgow and Bristol Temple Quays to small scale washing of pharmaceutical waste on the Isle of Sheppey and old transformer ballast in Greenwich.
Our involvement in soil washing trials at the site investigation stage enables us to obtain clear information as to the sustainability of the process and its suitability as a remediation option. Using established technology, we can carry out soil washing across any scale of project anywhere in the UK and, by combining with the other remediation techniques carried out by VHE, can provide the best economic and sustainable solution to brownfield land.
With the implementation of the EU Landfill Directive introducing further costs in the disposal of site material it is increasingly viable to wash smaller amounts of material, either in conjunction with a combination of remediation techniques or as a sole remediation solution.
At VHE we design and configure bespoke soil washing plants to suit each site and situation. Our soil washing techniques utilise a combination of physical and chemical processes including attrition, scrubbing, emulsifying, flocculation, forced particle separation, density separation, coagulation, flotation, decanting and activated carbon absorption.
Our soil washing plants are designed and configured to maximise the performance of each of these processes to extract and reduce the volume of contamination.
