The properties were built on a former Gasworks site and the remediation will include the removal of 600mm of contaminated soil from both the rear and front gardens to be replaced with soil. The works are being designed by Atkins, with whom VHE worked at Royal Inch Renfrew in the past, and will be overseen by Midlothian Council’s advisors WSP Environmental who are also involved at another VHE contract at Shotts for North Lanarkshire Council.
Space is very limited and therefore mobile welfare facilities are being used with site compound remote from the site. There are some challenges with working around existing features including retaining walls and elevated adjacent properties.
