VHE have been appointed as main contractor for the demolition of two gasholders at Lostock Hall, Preston.
Prior to demolition of the immense steel structures, each will be filled with water. An anticipated volume of 40,000 cubic metres of water is to then be discharged to the sewers, under consent from United Utilities, using an unmanned treatment system after which the base is to be cleared of the contaminated sludges. The sludges are stabilised on site prior to being transported to appropriate waste facilities.
The gasholders themselves stand approximately 10 metres above ground,have 4 lifts each, are 47 and 52 metres.
