We are pleased to announce that a Performance Beyond Compliance Certificate has been awarded to Site Agent Phil Dews following a recent visit to the Part 2A remediation works on the Craig Y Don estate in the coastal town of Amlwch, Wales.

The certificate was awarded under the rules of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and the site complied with the Scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice by achieving high scores in the ‘Care about Appearance’, ‘Respect the Community’, ‘Protect the Environment’, ‘Protect everyone’s Safety’ and ‘Value their Workforce’ categories, achieving an overall score of 39. The aim of the scheme is to improve the image of construction by monitoring all registered sites, suggesting areas where improvements could be made and rewarding those who are performing at the highest levels.

The Considerate Contractor Monitor commented “It was very pleasing to find such a high level of compliance with the scheme. Protecting the environment is exceptional on this site, the awareness of the environment at company level has produced systems which are carried out by the site team to give a result that is sometimes only seen on very high value and profile projects. Excellent safety systems are in place and being operated on site. The work done to raise awareness of vulnerable road users is particularly relevant on the roads on the Island. The workforce is valued to an exceptional level with facilities and care with occupational and mental health provision.”

The Part 2A project involves the remediation of gardens to 16 residential properties built on the site of a redundant copper smelting and chemical works.

The work includes;

  • Clearance of garden areas and storage of garden furniture
  • Excavation, segregation and disposal of contaminated soils
  • Import and placement of clean aggregates, subsoil and topsoil
  • Construction of new paths, patios and hardstandings for sheds and greenhouses
  • Retained of garden features to the required specification
  • Turfing, seeding and planting
  • Construction of driveways including footpath alteration works

Works commenced on site in January and are on schedule to complete in April 2019. As most of the properties are occupied the works have been split into 4 separate phases to minimise disruption to tenants.
