As a leading UK remediation contractor, VHE are familiar with providing Bioremediation expertise to help clients establish stable platforms for development.
In recent years, we have carried out bioremediation services at a number of different sites in places as diverse as Retford (Notts), Huddersfield Gas Works (Yorks), Eagle Works (Oxford) and Luneside (Lancaster). Details of these projects can be found in the Bioremediation Section of this website along with a number of other case studies. These projects have tested our expertise and challenged our planning and attention to detail bringing positive results in each case. The bioremediation techniques used have been effective in saving money and still maintaining project programme, delighting our clients with high standards of customer service.
Most of the projects undertaken in the past two years are based on the placement of materials in windrows although, where space is at a premium, the use of biopiles on schemes has been necessary.
Biopiles can be used when the conditions are not warm enough for natural bacteria to reproduce quickly enough so, in order to encourage the action of microorganisms in the treatment of the contamination, larger stockpiles of material are used and hot air is pumped directly into the material. The addition of the hot air facilitates the activation of the bacteria in the conversion of the contaminant and hence speeds up the cleaning process.
