Continuing our long standing commitment to providing vocational opportunities to students, VHE were pleased to recently welcome Jack Appleyard as an Apprentice Surveying Engineer.
Over the next 18 months Jack will be spending four days per week with VHE and one day studying a Level 3 Diploma in Civil Engineering for Technicians.
During his first week at VHE Jack spent time meeting people in various departments such as technology, quantity surveying, estimating, marketing and buying to provide him with a full overview of the company.
While at VHE Jack will be involved with Surveying Engineer duties including topographical surveying and using AutoCAD and LSS software to produce volumetric data. He will also be involved with geo environmental work to gain experience in noise monitoring, vibration monitoring and dust sampling. Jack will also assist the estimating team by attending site visits and creating models.
During his time at college the course will cover topics such as sustainable construction, mathematics and further mathematics, surveying, health, safety and welfare, science and materials, construction technology and design, structural mechanics, computer aided drafting and design and construction in civil engineering.
During the next 18 months Jack will have the opportunity to work on VHE projects across the UK, gaining valuable insight in to our contaminated land remediation, earthworks and infrastructure works.
