VHE completed the excavation of the land at Cornish Square, Sheffield in less than three weeks. Excavation of two contaminated areas of the former petrol station site was required, one consisting of hazardous material (tar) and the other a non-hazardous material (fuel). The material was excavated and transported to licensed landfill sites.
The remaining site required a cut/fill exercise to be undertaken and a 150mm piling mat constructed. All hard material on the site was removed and a volume of contaminated water was pumped into a holding tank and disposal was arranged. Existing blockwork vaulted cellar roofs were broken out and reprocessed for use in the piling mat. Basements were then filled with site derived materials to provide structural fill.
