The work to improve the environment is part of a wider project to clean up some of Fife’s former industrial land and bring areas back into beneficial use. More than a dozen sites across Fife have already been cleaned up in this way.
After some initial work to create accesses to the paddocks, home of some rare breed hebridean sheep, the excavation areas were marked out and secured prior to vegetation removal. Once the site was cleared worked commenced to remove the contaminated material that was present in the area as a throwback to the areas use as a local tip. This material was removed from site and replaced with locally sourced infill.
Due to the open public access and frequent use of neighbouring land by dog walkers a strict pedestrian control system was be put in place for the duration of the works. This, coupled with a robust methodology to limit the potential impact of the works on local public amenity, ensured that the works, undertaken throughout January, were completed without incident.
