VHE win Considerate Constructors Awards

Neepsend Gasholder This was a demolition project involving the dismantling of a redundant gasometer in Sheffield. The project gained a silver award in the projects under £500k category. The project was also our client, National Grid Property Holdings, 100th registered site and had also previously received certification for beyond compliance.

The team had made great efforts to undertake the works in accordance with the scheme values and to consider the effects on the public through site processes, public consultation, open days and stakeholder updates. The works commenced in October 2015 for a period of four months and required the removal of approximately 41,000 cubic metres of water, 380 cubic metres of sludge and 1,500 tonnes of steel.

The auditor noted “Overall an excellent site with exceptional practices regarding health and safety on site “ and “For the nature, duration and value of the site there have been and continue to be some excellent practices being carried out to ensure those affected by the works are kept informed, updated and consulted.”

Flass Lane, Castleford This earthworks and infrastructure project won the Considerate Constructors bronze award in the £500k-1m category. The project involved bulk earthworks of 175,000m3 of material, surface and foul drainage up to 5m deep and the creation of an attenuation pond. All the works were to prepare the land as a development platform for future housing. All works were completed within a 13 week programme and received a beyond compliance recognition during the CCS audits.

The auditor concluded “The site is readily compliant with the Code of Practice of the Scheme to a very good standard.”

The project is one of a number reclamations that VHE have recently undertaken for Harworth Estates.
