Gemma Hickingbotham, an experienced Geo-environmental Engineer with particular expertise in earthworks projects, has joined the VHE team to offer additional support to the existing technical team and to continue the expertise being delivered to a range of clients.
She provides a project management role on environmental and geotechnical site investigations, including organising, implementing and supervising sites for contaminated land and geotechnical assessment; interpretation of laboratory results; report writing; and preparing and issuing final measures and invoices.
Ground intrusive supervisory roles include those for cable percussive, rotary, rotary sonic, window sampling, concrete coring, and mechanical and hand-dug trial pits.
Gemma has wide experience of logging soils and rocks to B S5930 and Eurocode 7 standards, and can prepare health and safety documentation/plans, risk assessments, method statements (including site-specific ones) in accordance with standard procedures.
Over the years, Gemma has worked in a range of environments including; road and rail, nuclear and power, residential and commercial sectors and more recently has taken on the challenges of earthworks and remediation which allows her to utilise all the skills learnt. Working as resident engineer, Gemma is able to ensure that critical works undertaken, in advance of building construction, are done so in accordance with the necessary specifications and standards, in a sustainable and cost-effective manner. She takes great care to ensure that the most resourceful approach is taken and offers guidance to colleagues and other professionals to improve the level of workmanship and the finer attention to detail, offering the best result: structurally, chemically and aesthetically as possible.
