We are thrilled to be celebrating success following the National Grid Property Awards 2019 where we scooped the award for Best Project Delivery (small) for remediation projects at Howdon Lane and Houghton-le-Spring.
The environmental improvement works at Howden Lane (Wallsend) included; pre-commencement condition surveys, services verification, investigation to delineate remediation area, excavation of existing tarmac and sub-base, excavation of underlying spent oxide for disposal, excavation of tar contaminated soils for disposal, laying geotextile marker layer, backfill with suitable site won and imported fill, reinstatement of tarmac surfacing, environmental monitoring, validation testing and topographical surveys including as-builts. The works also won a bronze award at the Considerate Constructors awards earlier this year.
The source removal works at Houghton-le-Spring (Tyne and Wear) included; pre-commencement condition surveys, services verification, excavation of made ground to remove spent oxide and foul lime and offsite disposal, possible breaking out of buried gasholder to 1.5m bgl, laying geotextile, backfilling with suitable site won and imported fill, environmental monitoring and validation testing.
VHE successfully lead the projects, on behalf of National Grid Property Holdings, and delivered them with support from Advisian, Aecom, IPB and Mace.
Contracts Manager Tony Walton, who collected the award at the London ceremony, commented; “Our relationship with National Grid goes back over 25 years, and we are proud of this award, which recognises the work performed by National Grid’s supply chain. Congratulations to the site and office-based teams involved in both projects for their outstanding efforts.”
