Viridor Waste Management Landfill Framework
26 August 2015
Having been successfully appointed to the Viridor Waste Management Landfill Framework for the north of England and Scotland regions, VHE have started work on our fourth landfill site this year.
The latest works contract to get underway as part of our framework agreement is to construct a new cell at Erin Landfill near Chesterfield which can be seen from the M1 motorway, close to junction 29a.
Work is already well underway to install 100,000m2 of multilayer capping system including Geocomposite Clay Liner (GCL), LLDPE liner and a Geosythetic Drainage Layer (GDL) at Parkwood Landfill in Sheffield. Installation of LLDPE liner and capping systems at Rigmuir Landfill, near East Kilbride in Scotland, has now been completed.
Much more complex and also weather susceptible are the works at Pilsworth South Landfill, where two new landfill cells are being constructed, with capping works also due to start shortly.
A crucial part of modern landfill operations is Energy from Waste, captured through the gas recovery system which the capping works facilitate. Similarly the management of leachate, created in part by the decomposition of the waste, is controlled by temporary and permanent capping meaning that installing leachate management systems forms a key part of our works.
