VHE's involvement in the expansion of Yorkshire Wildlife Park
VHE are excited to announce our involvement in the extensive expansion of Yorkshire Wildlife Park!
The extension involved earthworks to create new areas and the construction of infrastructure. Works undertaken included forming new animal areas, paths, ponds and car parks.
The site area encompassed a set of existing agricultural fields, which required the topsoil stripping and storing for reuse, before the extensive landscaping and shaping for both lake features and natural looking animal landscapes.
The lakes were excavated and geosynthetic clay liner laid to effectively seal the base. Materials were placed on top of the liner to create a base of lake level. Gabion walls were constructed to suit choice designed locations, along with drainage and associated headwalls.
Animal landscapes were shaped to create as natural look as possible. External tracks were formed, both for access and the installation of ducting / boxes for power and telemetry.
Large car park areas were excavated to level, they had extensive drainage and ditches constructed throughout the areas to enable successful draining of the areas, prior to surfacing. Road networks were constructed and tarmacked to finish level for accesses to carparks from the entrance.
A further earthworks element carried out was to create the landform for the proposed visitor centre and hotel.
This was the second project VHE undertook for the client following the successful ground remediation of a polar bear reserve, home to the only polar bears in England, in 2016.
