Demolition and remediation of a former cable reel manufacturing facility in Liversedge for future residential development.
The project required the demolition of existing steel framed and brick clad buildings, which covered approximately 60% of the site area. This was followed by the break out of concrete foundations and maintenance yards, including cellar breakout and infill.
Segregation and crushing of approximately 3000m³ of demolition arisings allowed maximum recycling of re-usable materials through the processing of products suitable for incorporation into the engineered backfill and capping layers.
Chlorinated solvent contamination that had leached through the brick walls of an underground tank had created a contaminated hotspot below the water table. The contaminated groundwater was treated using an in-situ chemical oxidation process following the removal of the source hotspots by excavation and off-site disposal.
The scheme also involved the installation of foul and storm water sewers with a concrete headwall to the river outfall together with primary road infrastructure.
The works, which were completed on time and within budget, created platforms for a 68-unit residential development.
