Shirebrook Colliery

VHE has been awarded a contract by the East Midlands Development Agency to complete the reclamation of the derelict Shirebrook Colliery site in Derbyshire, associated spoil tip and adjacent former sewage treatment works. The project, which requires the import of 45,000m³ of landscaping materials, will transform this 60-hectare redundant site into level development plots with road corridors, balancing ponds, a rail head area and structural landscaping zones.

Shirebrook Colliery forms part of English Partnerships' National Coalfields Programme, which was set up in 1996 to assist former coalfield communities across England by creating new employment, homes, leisure facilities and public space.
