Remediation: Soil Washing

Soil Washing

(Click the image to view more images.)

On numerous occasions, we have added value to our customers by carrying out the remediation of contaminated material using soil washing techniques. We are able to undertake large-scale soil washing processes using bespoke plant developed and built in-house, as well as small site trials using plant that is entirely self contained and transportable to site in a volume treatmentprojects or full scale single delivery.

VHE’s experience includes major washing processes at Basford Gasworks (the first large scale trial of this technology in the UK), Woolwich Arsenal and the former diesel depot at Temple Meads in Bristol. We are currently carrying out remediation works on the site of the new athletes’ village for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow which involves washing in excess of 100,000m³ of historically contaminated made ground.

Our involvement in washing trials at the site investigation stage provides clear information as to the sustainability of the soil washing process as a remediation option. With the implementation of the EU Landfill Directive, it is increasingly viable to wash smaller amounts of material, either as part of a combination of remediation techniques or as sole remediation solution.
