Recently, VHE has undertaken works on regional highway schemes worth up to £20 million in value. These include both public infrastructure schemes as well as those in the commercial sector. This infrastructure capability complements our land remediation activities and enables our customers to benefit from an integrated approach to all their civil engineering requirements. One of our main advantages is that we can combine the drainage, earthworks, highways and structures elements to provide the customer with the most efficient, cost effective solution and seamless interface between site activities. We have developed excellent long-standing relationships with a large number of local authorities, with whom we work on partnering frameworks. Our success was recognised by the Institution of Civil Engineers Yorkshire and Humber as we were awarded the Centenary Award Certificate of Excellence for the work we undertook on Cudworth & West Green Bypass in Barnsley. Cudworth and West Green Bypass Customer: Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council Value: £16.0 million The eagerly anticipated scheme will reduce the amount of traffic, especially heavy goods vehicles, using the A628 though Cudworth, and improve access to local employment sites. The scope of works comprises: • Construction of 5.2km of new single carriageway. • Construction of 5 roundabouts, a rail bridge over the new road, a road bridge over the new road, 3 underpasses, 9 box culverts for water flow storage, major drainage works, street lighting and signage. • Design of the drainage, structures and surfacing. VHE installed a 110 tonne rail bridge as part of the scheme. The 22m long bridge was lifted into position by a 800 tonne Demag AC700 crane during a 28 hour rail possession. VHE and specialist rail subcontractors CML required only 30 minutes to install the single span bridge deck. The route runs through the embankment underneath the existing single track rail line connecting manufacturer Ardargh Glass with the Wakefield to Grimethorpe rail line. “Institution of Civil Engineers Yorkshire and Humber, Centenary Award Certificate of Excellence, Cudworth & West Green Bypass.” Infrastructure Contracting Services across the UK Contact VHE now on 01226 320150 • Visit www.vhe.co.uk • Find us on
