VHE are Bluebell Wood Hospice Charity Event Winners
12 April 2016
On Saturday 9th April VHE entered a team of its bravest and most intrepid staff members under the captaincy of senior estimator Mark ‘Skip’ Webster to take part in the first ever Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice Adventure Challenge.
In moderate weather conditions and against a field of nine highly competitive teams determined to take home the victory laurels the VHE team showed outstanding ingenuity in a number of tasks involving aerial challenges, archery, orienteering and problem solving. The blend of acute intellectual achievement and rugged physical ability within the VHE team paid dividends across the scope of challenges throughout the competition.
With nerves strained to breaking point at the end of the day an exhausted VHE team were proclaimed the overall winners and can now look forward to automatic qualification for the Rio Olympics later this year (annual leave to be negotiated).
The Winners Trophy is currently on display in the VHE offices and while there are no immediate plans for an open topped bus tour around Barnsley, team management may be forced to bow to public pressure. Group bookings to view the trophy can be made through Mark ‘Skip’ Webster.
As to be expected from VHE staff it was a great team performance although special mention goes to Steve Murdoch who, in a highly charged environment and under considerable weight of expectation, undertook a design and build project to construct a catapult which launched the VHE missile a massive 70mm further than the competition to clinch the trophy.
Well done team; we look forward to the title defence next year.
